The inside of a kiva. This was the ceremonial/religious center of the cliff dwelling. There was a fire in the center with the entrance/exit also functioning as a smoke hole. A ventilation shaft was built into the side, with a deflector stone as seen here to prevent drafts from making the room all smoky.
